It's Been A Cold, But Good Day

It's been a very chilly day today! The high was 60 but it was so windy so it felt much cooler. Rylie jumped on me in bed this morning saying "I go to dance today!"

She's still loving her class & teacher & friends at dance!

They danced to all cute Christmas songs today

And Rylie told David all night she had a "Christmas dance" today!

After Rylie napped I surprised her with some Veggie Tale fruit snacks I found at HEB a few days ago. When I showed them to her, she gasped & said "OH MY GOD, it's Bob & Larry!" lol I bout died laughing.

We met up Owen at the playground this afternoon too!

It was chilly, but they still had fun seeing each other for awhile.

AND our new family Christmas present came in today......

Our new computer! Finally a new desktop! I'm so excited! Hopefully I'll learn how to use it quickly & be back to posting edited (aka good) photos on the blog! And even more videos too!

Little Cookie Helper

Yesterday Rylie & Mommy made Christmas cookies together! I know it's still early, but we've never made them together before. So I've been very excited to do them this year!

I had some cute aprons made for us too! I bought these cheap at Hobby Lobby & a friend of a friend near us embroidered them for cheap as well! (Ignore how I look, allergies took over me this weekend)

Rylie was excited to get to help! She picked the star cutter every time & punched out her own.

I even let her do sprinkles all by herself! She got a little carried away on these though.

Then we watched them bake.

And let them cool off! They're not the prettiest things lol but they tasted good!

And my official cookie taster tried them out! (Her shirt says "Mom's little cookie taster" hehe!)
I'm sure we'll do a lot more baking together this holiday season & I'm looking forward to it!

After "naptime" (more like arguing with Rylie to stay in bed for a few hours & then losing that battle) Rylie's friend Charlotte stopped by for a few minutes to visit & right after she left Rylie crashed at 630! I guess all the excitement of the day wore her out!

Turkey Day Festivities

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! We had a great one. I've been fighting allergies all week though so I've been off the computer for a few days & we were busy getting ready for family visiting. I asked Rylie the night before Thanksgiving what makes her happy & what she's thankful for this year & she said "Mommy." It just melted my heart! I'm so thankful for my family!
Here's our Thanksgiving day pictures.
Thanksgiving morning Rylie & I watched the Macy's parade. I'm such a kid when it comes to this & love to wait for Santa!

David worked all morning on the turkey and homemade stuffing!

I set the table & made all the side dishes

I actually bought some Thanksgiving decorations this year.

After the parade Rylie helped me go through the paper & map out black friday plans.

Our family
Mimi & Gaga came over

David's Granny came down from Lubbock with Aunt Lana

And his cousin Amy also joined us with her son Colby. David's brother Daniel was also here. It was a full house! And we had a great time seeing everybody & eating good food. My first pumpkin pie to make was even a success. Ha! After we ate, we watched "Deck the Halls" to get into the Christmas spirit. Then Rylie went home with Mimi to spend the night.

David & I immediately put away Thanksgiving decorations and got out the Christmas stuff. We spent a few hours setting that up & then hit up Walmart for the midnight deals. What were we thinking?! It was CRAZY! Absolutely no parking. The deals started at 12:01 and at 12:10 when I walked in the door, everything was gone. So we came back home. I was able to order the rest of the deals I wanted online with free shipping. Friday morning David & I went to breakfast & then stopped in Kohls and loaded up on Christmas gifts at GREAT prices! There was no line either. Love that store! We finished all the inside decorations & cleaned the whole house before picking up Rylie from Mimi's. David put up the outside lights today & I wrapped the gifts. My goal this year is to get stuff done earlier so I can enjoy the holidays more.

Unplanned Hiatus

Sorry for the week-long absence from the blog! I really didnt plan on being away this long. Some of yall have asked if we were sick or something, but we're just fine! Thanks for thinking of us! I seriously just blinked last Friday & a whole week went by. It's a complete coincidence too that this week last year I took a break from the blog because I was just overwhelmed with things. Then I ended up getting sick & having surgery. So we're extremely thankful this holiday season that nobody's been in the hospital! (knock on wood)

Well, here's what we've been up to this past week!

Last Saturday evening David & I attended a birthday party for our friend Jay!

Christine threw a surprise party for her husband Jay & it was fun being out with friends!

Monday I dont have any pictures, but David & I spent the whole day in the downtown Houston Criminal Courthouse. Remember this crazy day back in April when we witnessed a crazy driver & called the police? Well, we turned our video in of the crazy driver & the girl was pleading not guilty. So we were subpoenaed to testify in court as witnesses. We arrived Monday morning & sat in the most uncomfortable wooden seats in the courhouse for over 2 hours, watching several other criminals go through their visits with the judge. Finally the Assistant DA took us to the witness room & said the Defense Attorney didnt have the allowed time to view the video we turned in so they requested a continuance, which they were granted. Usually we wouldn't want a continuance, but in this case we think it's for the best. The officer who arrested the girl is on chemo & cant testify right now but we're hoping he'll be better in February when the trial's been set for. However, we also hope that once the Defense Attorney watches this video with her client, they'll realize they have no chance at a trial & will take a plea. So hopefully we wont have to return to court again! It's not a fun place, lemme tell ya.

Tuesday Rylie had her usual dance class!

They worked on their cute routine where they're sleeping with a stuffed animal & then wake up & dance around.

Rylie's become a pro at jumping over things. She does this all the time around the house now too.

Wednesday I took Rylie to school & then went grocery shopping for Thanksgiving. We're hosting again this year and we're excited to be having family from Lubbock joining us this year too! While I was at Walmart I noticed their Angel Tree at the entrance. A 4 year old girl wanted a jacket for Christmas & it just made me want to cry. All she wanted for Christmas was a jacket to keep her warm. I couldn't resist. I bought her 2. And a Barbie doll.

Thursday....I dont even remember Thursday. lol What did we do?!

Friday was Rylie's Thanksgiving feast at her school so she wore her turkey shirt. She's been so excited for Thanksgiving coming up & talks nonstop about all the family members coming over that day. So she was really happy when I told her she was going to Thanksgiving at her school! She also got her new backpack earlier this week with her name on it. They were on backorder with her school, but these are issued to the 3 year old class for all students to have the same bag. I couldn't attend Rylie's Thanksgiving at school because I had MOPS and we had such a wonderful speaker! Probably my favorite meeting so far.

Friday night I attended the MOPS girls night out game night. I met a few new ladies from our local MOPS group & we had a lot of fun. This is Allison on the left & our MOPS coordinator Jennifer on the right.

My DGL table leader Monica on the left hosted this fun night & I met Amanda-center and Amy-right as well. They humored me & let me take their pictures because I told them I have a blog that about 2 people read! hehe

Saturday (yesterday) morning we were busy doing housework preparing for Thanksgiving and Rylie's Mimi called & offered to take Rylie to her house so we could get more done. As soon as we told Rylie, she was running all over the house saying "I go to Mimi house!" She intently watched out the window for Mimi's car too! lol

We had a very productive weekend of Christmas shopping and are all set for Thanksgiving!! I've gotta say though I'm not happy about this Houston weather. We were doing great for awhile, in the 60's and Rylie was able to wear her new Fall clothes. Then we hit back up in the high 70's again. Ugh! Rylie has nothing to wear lately and she's had slight allergies. I always hope we have a cold Thanksgiving, but it doesnt look like we will this year =/

Hope you all had a great weekend & smooth holiday week ahead!

Merry & Bright

What is it that makes the holiday season so amazing? It truly is a wondeful time of year.

Is it because music sounds better with bells?

Or because a cookie tastes better when it's shaped like a tree?

Perhaps it's because everything looks more beautiful with lights.

It could be that shopping is so much more fun when it's for someone else!

Whatever your reason is for loving this time of year, please take a moment to remember that while it truly is a magical time, there are some who aren't as fortunate to have a merry and bright Christmas to look forward to. They don't have a decorated tree or stocking to hang. While these things obviously aren't the most important part of the Christmas holiday, it is still very sad.

I ask you to please consider donating to the United States Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Foundation. It's very simple!

Just drop off a new, unwrapped toy at any Toys R Us-Babies R Us location thru December 6!

Together, we can help bring some Christmas hope to those less fortunate than ourselves, because everybody deserves a holiday season that's merry and bright!
