First Bad Day of School

I'm going to skip Old School Saturday post this week because our computer has been having problems lately so I'm just getting it fixed & needing to catch up!

Well I blog about every other "first" in Rylie's life, so I figured I might as well include her first bad day of school. So last Thursday, I picked up Rylie from school & her teacher told me she had a little accident an hour earlier. Apparently during a dance/music time another kid's head butted with Rylies lip. =( It was very big & swollen & purple when I picked her up & she'd just finished crying it looked. She wouldn't even talk or move her mouth, but held up her arms for me to hold her.

I took a few pictures when we got home & she just looked sadder than I'd ever seen. It's hard to see, but the 2nd picture shows her top lip swollen. Then I looked at her paper from her school day & they'd written she had a potty accident that morning. I dont know why she would've had an accident at school. She hasnt had 1 there in many months, but I'm honestly wondering if having a new teacher is just throwing her off. Regardless, this wasn't a great day for our Rylie! She just came home, got her lovey & laid down. When David got home she still wouldn't say anything. She didnt want to eat dinner, but just played with her food. We thought she could use some cheering up, so (dont judge us!) we took her to get some frozen yogurt.

She just had a little bit of chocolate with m&m's since she didnt even eat dinner, but she did eat good all day at school. She finally perked up for us & started talking!

I know we all have these days here & there. I was just so sad for Rylie last Thursday! It's not fun to watch your little one having bad days like this, but her lip is better now & next week will hopefully be much better for her!

More Summertime Storytime

Yesterday Rylie & I returned to our local library with friends Cady & her Mommy Courtney for storytime! Rylie was so excited to go again. I told her before bed the night before & then I checked on her in the middle of the night & she woke up, jumped up & said "Go library with Cady?!!!" lol I had to really convince her it wasnt time yet & go back to sleep!

Our girls were so excited to sing all the songs before storytime! They were definitely the most excited corner in the room! hehe

This seemed to be their favorite song-"If you're happy & you know it." Cady's doin the cute "then your face will really show it" part!

And all calmed down listening to the story!

They didnt do a craft today so we brought our girls to the main library section to read some books before we met Owen & Kendall for lunch afterwards. We're loving this Wednesday routine now & thinking of keeping it up this Fall as well. Can't beat fun indoor FREE activities with friends!

Rylie Q&A

Here's a little video I took Monday of some of Rylie's current knowledge!

Additionally, she's turning 3 in less than 3 months!
Here's some recent things she's also doing.....
-Current sayings "I did it!"... "No, not yet."..."Welllll"...."I me help you!"
-Huge improvement in putting words together for sentences. (e.g. She used to just say "Music!" in the car when she wanted her music turned on. Now she says, "Turn on music, please!" Just improved to this in a few weeks. Now everything's in full sentences.)
-She loves the music video on her Little Mermaid movie for Ashley Tisdale's "Kiss the Girl." We watch it probably at least 5 times a day! We all have it memorized & sing along.
-She's in a huge "not hungry" phase right now. She's always been a good breakfast eater & still is. But getting her to eat lunch or dinner lately is like pulling teeth! She only wants mac & cheese, yogurt, & sometimes a few crackers. We've cut out all snacks too. Hopefully it's a short phase! Bribing her has been the only thing to work right now.
-She's now become terrified of swimming. Now this girl's always been a huge fan of swimming & being in the water. She's loved her baths since day 1. She's always loved being in the pool. I dont know what has started this but just this past week or 2, she's not wanted to go in the water. She just wants to sit on the side & splash & this past weekend refused to even wear her floaties! I'm sure it's just another phase because nothing traumatic has happened to her in the pool. Not sure where this has come from?
-She loves playing "where's _____ go?" She's always hiding her kitty or lovey behind her back or something & asking us where it went. Then she flings it out with a huge grin on her face.
-We're pretty much done with sippy cups. She drinks from only regular big-girl cups at home & usually from straws when we're running around. I'll only pack a sippy cup if it's for her to drink in the car or something when we need extra reassurance it wont get spilled.
-She loves to line up her toys in a row. She gets her big toys in the living room & puts them in a line from biggest to smallest (her blocks wagon, strollers, shopping cart, etc) and sometimes she drags them all into Mommy & Daddy's room to line them up in there.
-She loves to "read" her books back to Mommy & Daddy after we've read them to her at bedtime.
-She's still the primary one to say the prayer at dinnertime & bedtime. She loves to say it!
-She loves to watch these videos of herself & always asks to watch "Rylie video" on our YouTube. lol

I think that's about it! At least all I can think of now! Wow....just a few short months & she'll be THREE! Can't even believe it. =)

A Day to Recuperate

Yesterday Rylie & I chilled at home after a big weekend! It wasn't raining after breakfast, but was predicted to later on so we played a little outside while we could! We hadn't busted out the sidewalk chalk in months!

And she played on her swingset for awhile too! Please excuse our tall grass growing under her. It's seriously been raining just about every day for the past few weeks. It's usually not raining mid-morning while David's at work or when we're having to go somewhere on a weekend.  lol

It was so humid this morning though! We were both a sweaty mess!

I did finally get video of her riding her bike by herself though! (Like a month late I know lol)

She's so funny-she was saying "Bye bye R. See you later R" to the sidewalk chalk R I drew earlier for her! She's all set to ride her bike to her friends' now! We practiced last week & she rode it 2 houses down to her friend Carter's. lol

Time for some good 'ol H2O after playing outside!

Hope your week's been off to a good start!

San Antonio & Sea World Weekend

So this past weekend our San Antonio/Sea World trip had finally arrived! We headed out on Friday evening as soon as David got home from work.

Rylie was already bathed & in pj's (gotta have the Buc-ee's shirt!) and I was her co-passenger in the backseat.

This was our 1st time to use our portable DVD holder. We'd usually just rigged it on the seat before but now we have this holder for it. And yes, we're probably the only people with a car that doesnt have a built-in DVD player. But when I picked out & bought my car 3 years ago while pregnant with Rylie, it didnt occur to me she'd want a DVD player years down the road. So this works for us & did great on the 4 1/2 hour trip. She didnt make a peep or whine to get up or anything. We didnt have to make any stops! This was our 1st big trip since she's been fully potty trained too!

So we arrived in San Antonio late Friday evening at my Aunt Rose Ann & Uncle Al's place. They've been begging us to come visit them for years now & we'd been wanting to go to Six Flags Fiesta Texas since David & I started dating because we both love water parks & he loves roller coasters. But we decided Sea World was best for Rylie right now so we finally made this visit happen!

Saturday we got up early & Aunt Rose Ann made us a yummy breakfast so we filled up! Then we headed to Sea World. My aunt & uncle's neighborhood get a lot of deer daily!

Finally at Sea World!

We came prepared for the heat with this stroller fan for Rylie.

First we went to the kiddie rides while the lines were short. This was the only ride Rylie was tall enough to ride. There was a cute whale roller coaster but Rylie was way too short for it. She loved this ride tho!

Then David wanted to ride the big rides while those lines were still short. First he went on this roller coaster that Rylie calls the "big scary ride." Rylie & I cooled off in a little shop nearby while he rode. Then there was no line so he rode it again!

There he is!

The penguin exhibit was next to the roller coaster so we did that next. Very dark tho so not good pictures!

And then we took David to the next big ride! The Great White! Rylie & I sat in the shade & she just loved watching this ride go over & over!

After that we were all ready for some shade & cooling off! So we went to our first show, a new one called Azul. Of course, after we sit down & get comfy & David leaves to get us lemonades Rylie says she has to go potty! Grr. So I had to call David to rush back without the drinks, then I rushed her on out to go potty & get our drinks all within 10 min before the show started! lol The show was great tho! Kinda like a circus show but on water & with dolphins & whales.

We all loved this show!

Ok, after seeing Azul, we figured we'd walk over to where the main Shamu show, Believe was at. They say to arrive at shows 20 min prior to start time, but I thought we'll get there an hour before start time, get some ice cream & get good seats. Apparently everybody else had that same thought! This is where things turned.....stressful! There was a HUGE crowd of people outside the doors to this show, again an hour before it started. I told David I'll stand in line with Rylie to get in while you go get our ice cream snacks. So you cant take strollers into the shows, so I parked ours & was then carrying Rylie's bag, my purse, & our souvenir bag & holding Rylie's hand. We're standing in blazing sunlight at 2pm with a huge crowd of people around us. Rylie started whining for me to hold her & refused to hold my hand. So I'm struggling to try to hold her & all of our things. Finally they let us go in & start sitting down. Everybody rushing on in not even caring who's beside them trying to fight for good seats. I was so worried for Rylie getting stomped on, so we walked slowly on the very outside of the crowd & headed to the stairs on the far end, thinking less crowds! We got to the bottom of the steps & there were no more seats. So we had to head back up to the top & walk to another section to look for seats. I was so ready to just leave & sit down somewhere! I called David & he'd just gotten our ice cream so we found him & finally found other seats in the middle section. Stressful!

So we're finally sitting down & cooling off with the stroller fan & water & our ice cream treats. Then....again....10 min before the show Rylie says she has to go potty. I swear we ask her while we're outside yall! lol So I grab her & we're hauling up the stairs, through the huge mob of people still trying to get in, run across to the restroom, she goes, we wash hands, & we're running back. Then we had to fight through the huge mob of people standing at the top of the stadium wanting to see the show & barely make it back in time!

I honestly wish I could say that Shamu show "Believe" was worth all that trouble! lol It was kind of a disappointment. It was only 20 min long & mostly just dramatic music while the whales swam underwater & we couldn't see them. They did a few jumps, & they kept showing these videos on the screen that weren't entertaining.

This little girl got to go out there & "meet" Shamu at the end.

So after that, we decided a nice relaxing afternoon in the waterpark sounded great! So we headed over there, only to stand in this line to get in there!
Left side of the line....

Right side of the line...
It's hard to tell in the pictures but these lines were double wide as well! It took us 40 minutes about to get through to get inside the waterpark. They have to control the number of people in there for lifeguard-swimmer ratio safety reasons.

After all that trouble, we got in & saw this way crowded wave pool! There was no where for us to sit or put our things or for Rylie to even get in! It was crazy! So we decided to just give up on that & head on out & go swimming at Aunt Rosie's house where we have the pool to ourselves! lol

We made our last stop heading out to see the dolphins cove. Rylie's favorite! That's all she'd talked about for weeks was getting to see the dolphins like the ones in The Little Mermaid!

We took a few of our own souvenir photos & then headed out! It was a good visit overall, but way overwhelming & hotter than ever. I dont think we'll ever go back on a Saturday in July! ha

We got back to Aunt Rosie & Uncle Al's house & cousin Al came by with his girlfriend & kids to visit. Uncle Al grilled some good ribs for us & we had a great dinner!

Then Rylie & I went in the pool for awhile, where Rylie ended up not wanting to even get in! She just wanted to sit on the steps & wouldn't even wear her floaty this time. We were all shocked! So we got out & watched the moon rise & some airplanes fly over. I'm sad this is the only picture I got of my Aunt & Uncle all weekend.

Sunday morning we had another good breakfast from Aunt Rose Ann & visited for a few hours. Then we loaded up & headed out. We stopped for a late lunch at a new place we'd never tried, Mimi's Cafe. It was really good!!! I wish we had one near us. Then we finished our drive home, where Rylie slept almost the entire way. It was a nice getaway & fun weekend visiting family & we're so thankful for Aunt Rose Ann & Uncle Al for hosting us & letting us make this trip! Can't wait to see you guys again!

Old School Saturday-Casey & I

So I've been asked before how Casey & I met. It's a Summer story, so figured now's a good time to tell it! I met Casey when we were 9 years old-the Summer before 4th grade, so 1995. We lived in Valley Mills, a very tiny little town in Texas. Summer baseball games are a big deal there. I played every year & even when I wasn't playing a game, we were still at the fields watching! My parents were on the committee thingy so they sometimes worked the concession stands too. Well, one night me & some friends were playing around out there & we saw Casey & her parents come to watch a game (her brother was playing). We had never seen someone in a wheelchair before so we were all intrigued. lol I just went up to Casey's mom & said "What's her name?" She told me & I asked what grade she was in & she said 1st. I said ok & went on to keep playing. The rest of the Summer baseball games I saw Casey at, I hung out with them on her dad's truck. Well, that December a lady came to our school & read us a story about people with disabilities being just like everybody else & told us we'd have a new student after Christmas break. It was actually Casey! She'd been going to a special school but they decided to bring her on in the public school. Oh my gosh, all the girls fought over who got to walk Casey here & there & who got to carry her books. We all loved her! The above picture is from our 6th grade graduation! My family ended up moving away during my 7th grade year but Casey was the only friend who stayed in touch. I spent many a nights at her house playing Donkey Kong on the Super NES, sleep overs, shopping trips and hospital visits to Ft Worth, Summer water therapy swim at the Y, etc. We stayed close friends for over 10 years and she was my oldest & dearest friend.
She was maid of honor at my wedding. (I love this picture of her with me as I was getting ready. She was the only one in the room while I got ready, so it was kinda special to me.)

And she came to meet Rylie after she was born. This was the last time I saw her well. Rylie was born in October & then we were just so busy with a newborn we didnt get to see Casey. In December she emailed me to set up a lunch date & we were so excited. Then the day after Christmas she went into shock & was taken to ICU. January 5, 2008 she went into heaven.

Ya know, I just hope Rylie has a close girlfriend when she gets older the way I had Casey. Truly a very dear friend! One can only be so lucky to have that. =)

She Loves Books & Storytime!

Rylie has always loved her books & our nightly bedtime story reading. I cant stop buying her books either! I'd rather invest money in books that will last a lifetime, than toys she'll outgrow in a year.

Lately, after we read her a bedtime story, she takes the book from us & says "I'm-a read!" Notice how she holds the book with her left hand. She first makes sure she's holding it with her pinky & thumb. I guess she got this from her teachers at school because that's not how we've been holding her books! I love how she picks up on everything these days!

I also got a new video of her reading her favorite, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar." Yall know she's been reading it for awhile, but I wanted video of  her improvement since the last time I videotaped her reading it. She can actually tell the story without the book too. We went to Barnes N Noble a few weeks back to get more books & found the actual caterpillar-$20! Yikes! Then I found a cuter caterpillar at the $1 store that she loves! We also recently bought "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" game that we've been waiting anxiously for her to be old enough to play it before buying. It just thrills me that she loves her stories & grows up with these special favorites!

Then on Wednesday we joined Rylie's friend Cady for Tales for Toddlers at the local library! I just knew Rylie would love this!

I'm so in love with this candid picture of them! Our girls were so good the whole time too!

I thought it would just be a lady reading a bunch of stories, but it was so much more! She first came around with a bear that Rylie called "Little Bear" (we've been reading those stories & watching the videos too!) Then they sang a few songs that were so cute!

Then she read a cute froggy story. This week's theme was on frogs-Rylie's & my favorite!

Then they made a cute frog craft!

Our girls so proud of their artwork! We had such a fun time & best of all-it was FREE!

Rylie & I had some time to kill when it was over so we explored the library a little & read a few books. Then we met Cady & Owen for lunch. We're thinking this will be our new Wednesday weekly thing!
